Program Description

The Merced College Registered Dental Assisting Program prepares students for a rewarding career in one of the fastest-growing healthcare fields. Designed as a comprehensive, hands-on training experience, this Certificate of Achievement program can be completed in just 10 months, providing students with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to enter the workforce as competent registered dental assistants.

Students participate in 1,080 hours of instruction, combining classroom learning, laboratory practice, and supervised clinical experience to ensure real-world readiness. The program follows a cohort model beginning each fall semester, guiding students through a structured sequence of courses that build both clinical and administrative competencies.

What You’ll Learn

The curriculum is designed to develop well-rounded dental professionals trained in:

  • Chairside assisting and clinical procedures
  • Dental anatomy, radiology, and preventive dentistry
  • Infection control and safety protocols
  • Dental materials and instrumentation
  • Patient care, communication, and professionalism
  • Administrative functions in a dental office

Students gain experience in both simulated lab settings and real clinical environments, preparing them to support dentists and deliver high-quality patient care.

Hands-On Training & Clinical Experience

Degrees/Certificates

The Merced College Registered Dental Assisting Program offers a Certificate of Achievement designed to prepare students for entry-level positions in the dental field. Upon completion, graduates will be eligible to take their state board exams to become a Registered Dental Assistant (RDA) and earn multiple Dental Board certifications, including:
