The School of Science, Technology, Engineering, & Math (STEM) offers a wide variety of courses. We offer coursework for the first two years of many science, math, or engineering majors. We also offer a variety of courses that support other majors on campus including: Allied Health majors, Agriculture majors, and Liberal/University Studies majors; for a more detailed listing of the programs please see the respective departments.

The STEM faculty are committed to helping students attain their educational goals; be it transfer to a four-year school, obtaining an associate’s degree or completing pre-requisites for another program. Our students have successfully transferred to all major universities within California.

Our Programs

  • Biology

    Biological science prepares you for transfer to a four-year institution and a career in research, teaching, lab technology, one of the health care professions, or related fields.

  • Biotechnology

    The Biotechnology program would include but may not be limited to working as a lab technician, in research or agricultural biotechnology.

  • Chemistry

    The Chemistry program would prepare you for transfer to a four-year university or for entry into an allied health program.

  • Computer Aided Design/3D Modeling

    Teaches a student Computer-Aided Design & 3D Modeling with 2D, and the basic 3D Computer-Aided Design (CAD) programs.

  • Computer Science

    The Associate in Science Degree in Management Information Systems is designed for students pursuing degrees in Business Administration, Computer Information Systems, or Management Information Systems.

  • Computer Tech and Information Systems

    The CTIS program introduces you to computer hardware and software skills needed to help meet the growing demand for entry-level IT professionals.

  • Geology

    Geology/Earth Sciences are intended to help you pursue a degree in teaching as well as to major in geology.

  • Engineering

    The Engineering department offers a full range of engineering courses for you to transfer to any four-year school to complete your engineering degree.

  • Mathematics

    The Merced College Math Department offers a wide range of math classes – from Basic Arithmetic to Differential Equations. 

  • Physics

    The Physics department offers a full range of physics coursework that is designed for physics and engineering majors as well as other science majors.
