Register for the Excellence in Online Teaching Series via the Faculty Online Support Hub in Canvas.

The Excellence in Online Teaching Certification series is given in three parts. Successful completion of Parts One, Two, and Three will fulfill the Online Teaching Certification requirements for teaching at Merced Community College District. Parts One, Two, and Three should be taken continuously and are offered asynchronously with required weekly participation and assignment submission.

Part One Introduction to Online Teaching (three weeks)

  • This training will take place asynchronously
  • Topics covered include the basics of using Canvas, laws governing online teaching and learning, accessibility, the creation of a syllabus, and other introductory topics
  • The estimated time of engagement per week is five hours
  • Spring 2024: February 5th – February 25th
  • Summer 2024 – May 20th – June 9th

Part Two Design Basics (three weeks)

  • This training will take place asynchronously 
  • Topics covered include recording videos, the basic module setup of a course, and utilizing templates
  • The estimated time of engagement per week is five hours
  • Spring 2024: March 4th – March 24th
  • Summer 2024 – June 10th – June 30th

Part Three Course Creation (three weeks)

  • This training will take place asynchronously 
  • Topics covered include the creation of weeks one through four of your Canvas course, Culturally Responsive Teaching, and Universal Design for Learning
  • The estimated time of engagement per week is five hours
  • Spring 2024: April 8th – April 28th
  • Summer 2024 – July 8th – July 28th
