For the second year in a row, Merced College’s External Relations team has brought home more awards than any other community college in California at the statewide Community College Public Relations Organization (CCPRO) annual conference.
At the April 10 awards ceremony in San Diego, the team earned three Gold, four Silver, and four Bronze awards, for a total of 11 statewide honors. The winning entries spanned a wide range of categories, including storytelling, publications, video, photography, graphic design, social media and more.
The CCPRO awards recognize excellence in marketing, communications and public relations efforts among California’s 116 community colleges. Hundreds of entries are submitted each year and judged by marketing and communications professionals from throughout the state.
“We’re proud to once again be recognized by our peers from across the state,” said Jill Cunningham, Vice President of External Relations. “This year’s success reflects the continued creativity, collaboration, and commitment of our entire team. We don’t take these moments for granted—we know they come from consistently doing great work for our college and community.”
Among Merced College’s winning entries was an article looking back at President Jimmy Carter’s 1980 town hall at Merced College. The article, published on Carter’s 100th birthday in October, took Gold in the Feature Story category. The college also won Gold for the Blue Devil’s Advocate monthly digital publication and for a quick-turnaround video from the Dreamscape Learn ribbon cutting event in August.
Merced College has steadily built a reputation for excellence in marketing, public relations and brand storytelling, earning consistent statewide recognition for its high-quality work and creative strategy. The college has won a total of 36 CCPRO Awards in the past four years.
The External Relations team serves as the college’s central hub for media relations, content development, marketing campaigns, digital engagement, design, and storytelling. This year’s wins build on the team’s growing legacy of success, and underscores the college’s broader commitment to advancing student success through strong communication and community connection.
