In his distinguished 14-year tenure as president of Merced College, Ben Duran led the construction of many of the college’s current buildings, creating much-needed space during a time of significant growth in student interest and enrollment.

As we celebrate Women’s History Month and recognize the countless contributions of women in our society, it’s also a moment for Merced College to express our profound pride in the women leaders who contribute immensely to achieving our mission.

During the Vietnam War, 58,281 men and women made the ultimate sacrifice. Today, communities across the nation have the opportunity to honor their bravery by visiting The Wall That Heals. This year, nearly 100 communities vied for the privilege of hosting The Wall That Heals, and Merced College is proud to be among the 33 selected. Starting March 28, with opening ceremonies at 10 a.m., until March 31, the college will host the three-quarter-scale replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, accompanied by a mobile education center.

MERCED, Calif. — In tribute to a storied career that helped shape the fabric of higher education in the Central Valley, the Merced Community College District Board of Trustees voted Tuesday to rename Merced College’s Business Resource Center after President Emeritus Ben Duran.

Every November, the front lawn of Merced College transforms into a patriotic sea of red, white, and blue.

The 11th annual Merced Sunrise Rotary Field of Honor—a display of American flags honoring the selfless work of veterans, active military and first responders—will be installed on the Merced College front lawn from Nov. 4-11.

Brandon Leake, the first spoken-word poet to be named champion of America’s Got Talent, will host a special evening of performances by local poets, rappers and writers at 4:30 p.m. May 2 at the Merced College Admin Amphitheater (in front of the Administration Building on the Merced campus).

During a Friday morning assembly at Planada Elementary School, the Associated Students of Merced College (ASMC) shared the bounty of a recent donation drive meant to help Planada students who lost homes, access to portions of their school, and so much more after their community flooded in January.
