The Social Science major is designed for students planning to major in social science and earn an elementary or secondary teaching credential at one of the California State Universities. Students should work with their counselors for specific university requirements.

    Geography studies the interaction between human societies and their environments.

  • History

    The History Department of Merced College offers a variety of history and honors level courses.

  • Human Services

    The study of human services provides an opportunity to gain a better understanding of the nature of humankind, while also gaining a deeper understanding of the self which ultimately translates into becoming better helpers.

  • Liberal Studies

    The Liberal Studies program is dedicated to assisting students who plan a future as a K-12 teacher.

  • Political Science

    The Merced College Department of Political Science is designed to help introduce students in developing knowledge, analytical skills and critical insights into the nature of politics, political problems, political systems and power relationships in the United States and around the world.

  • Psychology

    The Psychology curriculum provides students with an opportunity to gain an understanding of how psychological research and theory can be applied to daily life experiences.

  • Sociology & Social Sciences

    The study of sociology helps us to see and appreciate all of our connections to others, and affords the opportunity to become more responsible, through analytical thinking, for ourselves and the human community.
