OUTSTANDING STUDENT FOR OCTOBER 2010

Adrian Barnett has been selected as the Merced College Outstanding Student for the Month of October.  Barnett was nominated by Merced College Allied Health Professor Judy Rose, who states, "Although many capable students have been selected to enter the Radiography Program, only a few stand out as much as Adrian has."  Right from the start, Barnett demonstrated a confidence and leadership potential that was recognized as someone who can take care of business and get the job done.  Professor Rose states, "I know that if I need someone to volunteer to represent our program at an event, both of Adrian's hands will be raised up to make sure I see she wants to volunteer."

As a sophomore student, Barnett and a classmate submitted a scientific display at the Annual California Society of Radiologic Technologist's Conference and they took first place.  This display is now permanently mounted in the Merced College Allied Health Center.  Barnett's academic potential while in the program is close to perfect.  She has completed 50.5 units with a G.P.A. of 3.96.

Barnett was raised by her parents with her younger brother in the town of Newman.  She and her husband, Mike, have two children and make their home in Gustine.  "I am a self-proclaimed huge San Jose Sharks fan!" states Barnett.

She was a straight A Honor Roll student throughout elementary and high school and graduated Valedictorian from Orestimba High School in 2001.  She enrolled into Merced College that same summer, focusing on classes that would complete her prerequisites so that she could enroll into the Radiologic Diagnostic Program as soon as possible.  Last May, she graduated with her Associates Science Degree in Radiological Diagnostic Imaging.

Barnett is completing her final semester of the Merced College Radiology Program and plans to receive her certificate of completion and then take the National Board Test.  She plans to extend her Radiographer license into Computed Tomography and Mammography.  She also plans to complete additional classes needed in order to transfer to a university and obtain her Bachelor's degree.

We congratulate Barnett on her many accomplishments and wish her all the best.  Barnett will be honored at the upcoming Board of Trustees Meeting and be presented with a certificate, special parking pass and $50 check.
