Amanda Mitchell, a sophomore at Merced College has been selected as the
April Student of the Month. Amanda was nominated by Professor
Vilhauer for her exemplary academic skills. In addition to her
busy school schedule she finds time to tutor in accounting.
Vilhauer notes that "Amanda has demonstrated great leadership skills in
the classroom and has a fabulous worth ethic." Amanda
maintains a 3.85 grade point average and currently holds two jobs.
She works 25-35 hours per week in addition to her fulltime 15 unit load.
She has participated in several community activities including Food and
Coat drives, dinner fundraisers and the American Cancer Society's Relay
for Life Walk.
Her educational goals include transferring from Merced College after
this spring and attending a California State University where she will
work toward her Bachelor's degree in Business Administration. Her
focus will be in accounting, she'd like to become a Certified Public
Accountant and work toward owning her own firm. She later plans to
obtain her Master's degree.
Amanda has lived in Merced all her life and chose Merced College
because it was close to home and so she could obtain a quality education
at economical costs. She is an inspirational leader and has
assisted her fellow students to help them become better prepared to
tackle difficult accounting courses.
Ms Mitchell will receive recognition at an upcoming Board of Trustees meeting
and has received special parking privileges for the month of April and a
check for $50. She will also be considered for Student of the Year.
