Amanda Mitchell, a sophomore at Merced College has been selected as the April Student of the Month.  Amanda was nominated by Professor Vilhauer for her exemplary academic skills.  In addition to her busy school schedule she finds time to tutor in accounting.  Vilhauer notes that "Amanda has demonstrated great leadership skills in the classroom and has a fabulous worth ethic."   Amanda maintains a 3.85 grade point average and currently holds two jobs.  She works 25-35 hours per week in addition to her fulltime 15 unit load. She has participated in several community activities including Food and Coat drives, dinner fundraisers and the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life Walk.

Her educational goals include transferring from Merced College after this spring and attending a California State University where she will work toward her Bachelor's degree in Business Administration.  Her focus will be in accounting, she'd like to become a Certified Public Accountant and work toward owning her own firm.  She later plans to obtain her Master's degree.

Amanda has lived in Merced all her life and chose Merced College because it was close to home and so she could obtain a quality education at economical costs.  She is an inspirational leader and has assisted her fellow students to help them become better prepared to tackle difficult accounting courses.

Ms Mitchell will receive recognition at an upcoming Board of Trustees meeting and has received special parking privileges for the month of April and a check for $50. She will also be considered for Student of the Year.
