Jessica Daclan has been selected as the February Outstanding Student of the Month. She is currently completing her third semester at Merced College and plans to transfer in the fall to USC to earn her Bachelor of Science Degree in Dental Hygiene.  Jessica's GPA is 3.9 and has worked hard to maintain her grades while attending school fulltime and being a single mother.  Jessica notes, "I strive for excellence in all that I do, I am eager to succeed and get ahead in hopes of providing my children with the opportunities I wasn't afforded as a child."  Professor Estrella nominated Jessica for her excellent scholarship, dedication to her academic responsibilities and contributions to the community.  He notes that "she is motivated in everything she does which is contagious and uplifting."

Jessica has served as President of the Phi Theta Kappa this semester.  As a member of Phi Theta Kappa she had the opportunity to head the Relay for Life for the American Cancer Society.  This involved working with her advisor to gather 23 members to raise money to help find a cure for cancer.  This experience was an honor and she most enjoyed working with a great team of leaders.

Ms. Daclan not only excels in academic and community involvement she is the proud mother of Emily and Vincent and they are her main priority.  She volunteers in their classrooms twice a week.  After observing her in action with her children, she is truly an Outstanding Individual with many talents and ambitions.  Jessica was recognized at the February Board of Trustees Meeting with a certificate and parking permit for the month.
