OUTSTANDING STUDENT FOR OCTOBER 2006 Student, father and husband best describes the all around William Oljace, October Student of the Month at Merced College. He was nominated by Judy Rose, Instructor of the Radiography Program for his high standards in professionalism and personal responsibility. William began in the Radiography Program in Fall of 2004 and will be completing his training this December. Judy notes that William has a "highly developed sense about people and their needs which translates into great patient care skills." He is known to go beyond the call of duty to ensure that things are done. When talking with William, he is quite modest and does not expect or seek recognition for his work. It is Judy's belief that good people do not seek recognition but do appreciate when it is recognized. Academically Bill maintains a 4.0 grade point average in all his coursework. He volunteers at high school career day events as well as in fundraiser events for his class. He recently presented his case study on Clay Shoveler's Fracture at the Radiographic Pathology Hang 10+ 2006 Seminar. William has been married to Christine for 11 years and is the father of Justin who is 8 and Jonathan 5. He is a role model to them and volunteers time to homeless in Merced and to youth sports. Bill's future plans include moving closer to family in Oregon to work at a Eugene hospital. When asking Bill what made him choose Merced College he noted that it was the program's reputation. William will be recognized at an upcoming Board of Trustees meeting and will receive a check and special parking pass.
