Jun Gyu Kim
Future Goals: transfer to University of California for Bachelor's Degree and obtain his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine Degree
Nominating Instructor: Christine Plecnik, Ph.D.
Jun Gyu Kim has been selected as the March Student of the Month. He is from South Korea and has been studying at Merced College for two years. Dr. Christine Plecnik, Instructor in the Science, Math and Engineering Division nominated Jun. She first met him in Spring of 2005 in her Chemistry lecture and lab. She notes that Jun is "intelligent, hardworking and determined." He demonstrated his abilities in many areas particularly in the team environment. "He has excellent problem solving and critical thinking skills."
Jun is eager to study Pre-Veterinary Medicine, as he plans to transfer to University of California to begin studying Animal Science. Jun has a 4.0 GPA and academic honors. He has received numerous awards which motivates him to continue working hard. He plans to keep good grades to be accepted into the School of Veterinary Medicine at UC Davis.
Jun is not only an excellent student, he is involved with many organizations including Pre-Vet Club where he donates his time to Animal Adoption Fairs. He volunteers with the Merced SPCA Animal Shelter and at the Merced Applegate Zoo. These experiences have confirmed his desire to become a Veterinarian. As a representative of the Pre-Vet Club he advises students interested in the field. He is a member of the honor societies Alpha Gamma Sigma and Phi Theta Kappa. He has had the opportunity to work for his former instructors in the English lab and as a Chemistry grader. Dr. Plecnik reported that Jun grades lab reports with diligence and thoroughness.
In his spare time Jun raises animals such as lizards, fish and shrimp. Congratulations to Jun he will be acknowledged at an upcoming Board of Trustees meeting and receive a check and one moth special parking pass.
