Leigh-Ann Thornhill


Major:                           Education and Theater

Interests:                      sewing, quilting, reading and collecting pencils

Future Goals:       Transfer to Mississippi University for Women to earn  Bachelor's and Master's Degrees

    Leigh-Ann Thornhill was selected as the Outstanding Student for the Month of October 2004.   "She's intelligent, organized, diligent and dependable" as described by Trish Schade, English Instructor  who nominated Leigh-Ann for this award. 

Ms. Thornhill has a cumulative GPA of 3.5.  She has completed her Associate of Arts Degree in Drama and graduated with honors.  She is currently pursuing units to transfer to a four-year university and work toward her Bachelor's and Master's Degree and would like to someday teach at the high school or community college level. 

  "She is an exemplary student and a model for students in her dedication and organization."  Leigh-Ann is involved with many extra-curricular activities including membership in  Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society.  She has volunteered numerous hours working with voter registration,  March of Dimes and the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life. She has participated on campus with ASMC, recycling, Locks of Love, Kid's Day with the Fresno Bee, Project Graduation and more. She has attended Leadership conferences that have enabled her to meet other college students, discuss honors topics and find ways to serve our community. 

     Ms. Thornhill concludes that she has built a sense of community at Merced College.  "I have learned by dedicating time to studies, students and worthy causes and my life has become a meaningful educational journey." The Outstanding Student of the Month Committee is proud to present Leigh-Ann with this honorable award.
