Maria Kenney was selected as outstanding student for the month of December.  Her teachers praise Ms. Kenney for her model behavior as student.  She is said to be very attentive, poses good questions, and writes outstanding tests to boot.  She religiously does all her homework and any extra credit offered.  Yet, she goes beyond efforts of just assuring a good grade thanks to her commitment to learning the concepts.  Thus, it comes as no surprise that Ms. Harris, her math teacher, describes her as an "ideal student."  As is to be expected, Ms. Kenney can boast a perfect GPA since her admission to Merced College in the fall 2000.

Aside from her unusual dedication to her own learning, Ms. Kenney is described as very helpful towards other students.  She is said to be always seated in the front row and patiently helping out those students who are in need of support.  Because of that, Ms. Kenney not only serves as a model for other students, but also "creates an environment of excellence in the classroom", as was commented by Ms. Dawson, another teacher of hers.

Ms. Kenney hails from the Bay Area where she successfully engaged in a number of jobs in amazingly different branches requiring a gamut of skills and quite a bit of initiative.  Still, Ms. Kenney self-describes first and foremost as a mother of four children ranging in age from 5 to 15.  Besides her children, she indicates a strong interest in Reform Theology, and is currently volunteering as librarian at Evergreen Christian School in Atwater.  There, she also teaches Sunday school at Bible Baptist Church.  Given her interest in education, it comes as no surprise that Ms. Kenney's future goals are to attend CSU Stanislaus and to eventually become a teacher.
