John Winburn

John Winburn was selected as the outstanding student for the month of March.  John was born in Dos Palos, and after graduating from high school and briefly enrolling at Merced College, he decided to join the United States Air Force.  Upon leaving the Air Force in 1997, he re-enrolled at Merced College in Los Banos and graduated last May with an AA in liberal studies, boasting a perfect GPA.  He is currently taking classes both at the Los Banos campus and Stan State where he pursues a degree in Liberal Studies with a math emphasis.

His teachers describe him as very quick to learn, inquisitive, and focused.  He is so motivated and efficient, teachers are hard put to keep him busy.  He frequently exceeds their expectations on every count.

John's future goals focus on obtaining a teaching credential that would permit him to teach math at the junior high level.  Eventually, he is planning to pursue a master's degree in math, with the ultimate goal of returning to Merced College in the capacity of math instructor.

Outside of his studies, he divides his free time between his wife and two daughters, tutoring math at all levels at Merced College and Charleston Elementary in Los Banos, and working for an ice-cream company.
