In society today life is extremely fast-paced and full of challenges. There are many people who are forgotten in the midst of all the chaos, people who perhaps encountered a challenge they were incapable to overcome. Phi Theta Kappa does not overlook these people, our friends, neighbors, and fellow community members who need a helping hand. Whether they are unable to provide enough Christmas gifts for their children, are in need of some extra food, or have been afflicted with an illness, Phi Theta Kappa and its members have something to offer. It can be a contribution as big as donating hair for the wig of a cancer patient, or small as a smile. Everything from our community service projects to the random acts of kindness that are characteristic of Phi Theta Kappa members reach out and touch those in need in a positive way, and encourage others to do the same. Phi Theta Kappa is important because it makes a difference in the life of our community, our neighbors, and each other. Education is becoming increasingly important in this day and age. Unfortunately, achieving a higher education is also becoming increasingly difficult, with ever-rising tuition costs and demanding admission requirements. Phi Theta Kappa serves an important role in helping students achieve their academic goals by providing members with access to thousands of dollars worth of scholarships, the opportunity to participate in the extracurricular activities needed to put the edge on a college application, and the leadership and organizational skills that are essential in college and the workplace. Empowerment is a key word in defining what Phi Theta Kappa is and does. Phi Theta Kappa empowers its members by celebrating our academic achievement and encouraging us to persist in our quest for excellence. Phi Theta Kappa empowers us to give something back to our community and its members. It empowers us to become leaders, movers and shakers. This recognition, community service, and leadership empower us in turn because it encourages us to be the best we can and to continue making a difference. And that difference we make in the lives of those we reach out to empower these people, by letting them know that there is help, there is support, there is love and kindness, and that they can do it; they can overcome. We feel good being empowered, becoming more well-rounded and successful students and individuals. We feel good serving the community, and the members of our community who we help feel good because of our positive actions. We feel good renewing our dedication to academic achievement, expanding our mind and broadening our experiences. When you get right down to it that is what Phi Theta Kappa is all about: feeling good. And there is nothing more important than that.
