In Memory of Michael L. Riley · Michael was a 29-year-old Navy veteran, who served during Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan. He was awarded several ribbons and service medals. Tragically, he was shot to death on Oct. 7. Michael was a 4.0 student with his sights set on becoming a lawyer. He was close to completing his coursework at Merced College. He even earned two scholarships from the college. He planned on transferring to either CSU, Stanislaus, or the UC, Berkeley. In Dec. 2008, he received an honorary diploma from Merced College. He was a member and VP of Public Relations for Phi Theta Kappa. A scholarship in Michael L. Riley’s name has been established. Michael is pictured in the back row, third from the right.
