Bond Oversight Committee Minutes

The meeting was called to order at 9:15 p.m. by Chairperson Chris Tafoya. The pledge of allegiance was led by Sheila Flores.
1. Hearing from the Public
There was nothing from the public.
2. Approval of Minutes from the meeting held on Saturday, March 11, 2006
It was MSCU (Hoyt/Randolph) to approve the minutes.

3. Discussion, Updates and/or Action
a. Approval of 2005-06 Citizens’ Annual Bond Oversight Committee Report
Larry Johnson referred to the 2005-06 annual report for the period ending 2006 and explained that the committee had approved a draft of the report at the last Bond Oversight meeting. This report satisfies the committee’s annual responsibility to ensure that bond funds are spent accordingly on bond projects specified on SFID 1 and SFID 2 ballots. This report will be submitted to the Merced College Board of Trustees, be distributed to area newspapers, and is available on the college web page www.mccd.edu.
After discussion it was MSCU Ward/Garibay to approve the 2005-06 Citizen’s Bond Oversight Committee Annual Report.
b. Bond Oversight Committee Membership
Larry explained to committee members that each of their terms, except for the student representatives, would be over in August of 2007. He thanked each of the members for their commitment to the committee and support of Merced Community College District. Nomination forms were sent out earlier this year, and a new list of members will be submitted to the Board of Trustees at the May 2, meeting. The list of individuals is as follows:

c. Construction Project Update
Larry Johnson gave the committee a brief update on each of the projects. Following is a summary of his report:
Learning Resources Center: This project is completed and a grand opening was held on April 25.
Los Banos Campus: This project is nearing completion and occupants will be moving in at the end of May and the campus will be open in time for Summer School.
Merced County Office of Education (MCOE) Early Childhood Education Center: MCOE is in the process of planning an early childhood education center at the Los Banos Campus. This new facility will not only benefit the community, but also the students of the Los Banos Campus.
Science Building Remodel: This project is under construction and should be open by Fall of 2007.
Business Resource Center Project: Construction is underway and this project should be complete by Spring of 2008.
Lesher Building Remodel: Phase I, Asbestos Removal, has begun on this project. Phase 2 will begin within the next couple weeks. This project will give the students of Merced College a one-stop center for all their registration and information needs.
Allied Health Complex: This project will go out to bid in July and should be completed by Fall of 2008.
Agriculture/Industrial Technology Complex: This project is one year behind the Allied Health Complex and should be completed by Fall of 2009.

After the meeting, Dean of Los Banos, Karyn Wiens, led the committee on a tour of the Los Banos Campus.
