March 2019 Student of the Month
Justin Reimann cuts a balance that student athletes across the country routinely struggle with.
He’s found a way to excel both in the classroom and on the field. Merced College’s March Student of the Month has maintained a 3.46 GPA since stepping on the campus in Fall 2017. He’s achieved all that while playing linebacker and being named defensive captain on the Blue Devil football team.
Reimann’s academic prowess caught the eye of Biology Professor Cary Coburn during a summer course last year. Despite having to leave class early due to summer conditioning sessions with the football team, Reimann never skipped beat.
“Justin takes his academics very seriously and is very focused on his career aspirations, but at the same time is a very humble and respectful student,” Coburn said. “He is popular with and works well with his peers in the classroom and on the gridiron.”
Reimann’s football acumen has been equally impressive to the Merced coaching staff, helping him earn a spot as one of the team’s captains. While Reinmann loves football, he intends to pursue a different kind of career on the field.
“Once I finish up my coursework at Merced College I plan to transfer to Stanislaus State University to pursue my bachelor degree in kinesiology,” Reimann said. “After that I would like to apply to Sacramento State’s Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) program. Merced College is helping with my first steps in this direction by providing me with an affordable education and the experience of playing for our football team.”
