California Secretary of State Alex Padilla will visit the Merced College campus on Wednesday, Aug. 30 to discuss the importance of being a registered voter with the Merced College students.
Padilla will speak to students at the Lesher Building at 2 p.m., emphasizing registering, getting involved and knowing voter rights. After his speech, he will also hold a question-and-answer forum with the students in attendance.
“We’re honored to have Secretary Padilla on campus and support his efforts to get students involved in the election process,” Merced College Superintendent/President Chris Vitelli said. “This is a great opportunity for our students to engage with one of the top leaders in our state’s government.”
In addition to Padilla’s visit, the county Registrar of Voters office will have a table set up in the main quad to register students to vote or answer their voter-related questions.
Registrar of Voters Barbara J. Levey will also attend the forum and provide remarks to the student body.
