Twenty two Merced County companies descended upon the Merced campus on Oct. 17 in search of fresh and talented employees.
Hosted by the Merced College Career Center, the Fall 2018 Career Fair presented students the opportunity to get one-on-one face time with some of the area’s top companies. Located around the Quad grass, the bi-annual event let participants get valuable information on job prospects, submit a resume and take home a little swag during its three hours.
“What we’re hoping to achieve is to get the resources out there for the students of Merced County, Stanislaus County and Fresno County,” Career/Transfer Center Assistant Deidra Brinson said. “We just want to provide students with employment information. How to apply. How to obtain job applications.
“So basically, we’re just trying to get as many resources as possible for students to be able to obtain employment.”
Bearing bright banners and interesting props, companies like Dignity Health, the California Highway Patrol and the Sierra Academy of Aeronautics passed out job applications and valuable information to all comers.
“It was pretty cool,” Merced College freshman Juan Garcia said. “I didn’t know much about it, but I’d seen a post on Instagram and decided to check it out.
“I really want to get into law enforcement after I graduate, so getting to talk to guys from the Sherriff’s Department and Highway Patrol about what I need to do was really helpful.”
