The clubs across Merced College are preparing for recruitment in the new semester with Club Rush Week. Starting the week of Jan. 29, the Merced campus’ various clubs will be out introducing themselves to perspective new members in the main Quad. Los Banos campus Club Rush will get going the next week.

Merced College offers over 30 clubs across campus. The clubs are student-run organizations that offer subjects from theatre to debate. Club members will be out at booths stationed around the Quad throughout the week, explaining the club’s activities, goals and requirements. Many will also explain when and where they are holding club meetings students are able to attend.

History Club head Michelle Smith is eager to get Club Rush kicked off.

“The more members we have, the more events we can do as a club,” Smith explained. “You get to meet so many new people, and it’s a chance to get involved in the community.”

Merced College’s two honor societies, Alpha Gamma Sigma and Phi Theta Cappa, will also be recruiting and out to answer any questions students may have about qualifications to join.

You can learn more about the various active clubs on campus at the Associated Students of Merced College office in the Student Union. The ASMC office is open weekdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. or students can visit their Facebook page (@ASMCMerced).
