Chancellor Oakley participated in a productive Campus Forum
We were honored to host Chancellor Eloy Ortiz Oakley at Merced College on August 21st. He was able to tour our Veterans Center, our new Student Success and Tutorial Center and participate in a very productive Campus Forum that took place on the top floor of our Learning Resource Center.
Students and staff were able to interact with the Chancellor in a question and answer format. The message was positive with a theme of increased opportunities to serve students.
“We cannot be the California we want to be unless we bring up and bring forward every student. California Community Colleges are designed around the idea that higher education should be available to everyone” said Oakley.
Students were able to talk to Oakley about the unique issues facing students in Merced including food insecurity, housing, tuition costs and transfer agreements with the UC and CSU.
Oakley said “I encourage all Community College Students to use their voice, to advocate with their local legislators for expanded services and increased access to education.”
