Congratulations to former Blue Devil Football head coach Tony Lewis, who was recently inducted into the California Community Colleges Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame.

Lewis, who is currently the Blue Devil defensive backs coach, had racked up 41 years as a Blue Devil football player and coach. The honor was a humbling experience, Lewis said.

“When you read over the list of people that are already in the Hall of Fame, it’s an amazing feeling to be associated with them,” Lewis told a local newspaper.

Lewis played football at Merced College from 1974 to 1975 under then head coach Don Odishoo. He was first hired in 1978 as the defensive backs coach.

He became head coach in 1989, earning three conference titles and the NorCal title in 1995. He was named the Central Valley Conference Coach of the Year in 1995, 1996, and 1997. He was the CCCFCA Region II coach of the Year in 1995.
