Position: Professor of Vocational Nursing
Salary:
$50,339 - 68,746 (additional compensation for doctorate)

Minimum Qualifications

Required:

  • Enrollment or completion of a course in the principles of teaching is required AND the following:
  • Hold a current California active RN or LVN license AND Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution; OR  
  • Valid teaching credential or met community college or state university teaching requirements in California OR
  • Minimum of one year teaching experience in a state accredited or approved registered nursing or vocational or practical nursing, or psychiatric technician school within the last five years AND minimum of two years’ experience within the last five years as a Registered Nurse or Licensed Vocational Nurse
  • Must meet approval of the Board of Vocational Nursing and Psychiatric Technician Examiners
  • Candidate must have sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.

Preferred:

  • Master's degree in nursing or a related field from an accredited institution
  • Current technology skills related to teaching in the discipline and a willingness to pursue future technological developments.

General Description:   This is a full-time, tenure track instructional assignment in the Nursing Department at Merced College under the general direction of the Director of the Vocational Nursing Program.  The professor must be able to integrate the basic principles of nursing into both classroom and clinical instruction.  The professor also must be able to assume responsibility for students in clinical facilities and establish and maintain communication between the facilities, its employees and the College.  The standard teaching load is 15 units per semester, which may include evening hours.

Essential Functions:

  • Provide instruction in accordance with established course outlines and expectations
  • Inform students about course requirements, evaluation procedures and attendance policy
  • Maintain required student attendance and scholastic records
  • Prepare and grade class assignments and examinations
  • Post and maintain regular office hours in accordance with prevailing policy
  • Participate in the development and review of curriculum
  • Participate in the development of teaching-learning methods and materials
  • Participate in departmental, area and campus professional activities/committees
  • Participate in the college's learning outcomes assessment program, including course, program, and institutional assessments
  • Perform tasks needed for student records, e.g., submit grades on time to admissions and records

Allied Health, Business & Public Safety Area:  The Area consists of 27 full-time faculty members and offers a full range of courses in nursing, radiologic technology, allied health,  fire sciences, emergency medical technician, accounting, business, computer studies, administration office management, marketing/merchandising, addiction studies, administration of justice, nutrition, and real estate.
