  • Graduation from high school or the equivalent and one year of college
  • Type a minimum of 40 net wpm
  • Two years of increasingly responsible clerical experience including the equivalent of one full-time year in a library or audio-visual center
  • Experience working with web browsers and Internet searching
  • Be sensitive to and understand the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.

General Description:

Under direction of the Director of the Learning Resources Center, coordinates and participates in technical and clerical library audio-visual media duties relating to the use of technology and the circulation, acquisition, processing, repair of, and display of library and/or audio-visual center materials; trains and oversees the work of others in library and audio-visual media functions; supervises the circulation desks and other LRC areas; prioritizes services and enforces college policies and procedures.

Essential Functions

  • Performs duties necessary for processing books and media.
  • Helps plan and implement procedures for the Learning Resources Center
  • Trains, schedules, assigns tasks to, and supervises the work of student assistants
  • Assists faculty and students in locating and using LRC materials and technology.
  • Circulates LRC materials using the SIRSI automated library system including periodicals and books  to faculty and students
  • Registers student and faculty into the SIRSI automated library system
  • Conducts inventory
  • Supervises and maintains work areas.
  • Supervises and participates in the collection of fines and fees
  • Receives, checks in and processes LRC equipment and materials using the SIRSI automated library system and other recordkeeping systems
  • Repairs and supervises the repair of LRC materials
  • Enforces college policies and procedures
  • Maintains a variety of lists
  • Collects fines and other money including funds received from printers, microfilm machines, and copiers
  • Trains others in performing SIRSI automated circulation functions and other LRC duties
  • Delivers LRC materials and equipment to locations across campus.
  • Creates forms, charts and schedules

Knowledge of:

  • Library and audio-visual technical practices, terminology, and procedures
  • Computer office applications, including word processing
  • Computer applications including internet browsers and operating systems such as Microsoft XP
  • Office methods, procedures, and equipment
  • Basic reference sources.

Ability to:

  • to perform specialized duties in the assigned area of the LRC
  • to schedule, assign, train, and oversee the work of others·
  • to understand and follow oral and written directions
  • to type 40 net wpm
  • to maintain accurate records
  • operate a variety of office technology including computers, copiers, laminators, and calculators/adding machines·
  • to work cooperatively with others
  • communicate with others using basic English including correct English spelling, grammar and punctuation

Interview Information: Those applicants deemed most qualified for the position will be invited to appear for oral interviews before a screening committee.  Finalist interviews with district administrators may follow.  A limited number of candidates will be invited to interviews.  Expenses for travel and accommodations will be the responsibility of the candidates.
