  • Graduation from high school or the equivalent
  • Type 50 net words per minute
  • Possess a valid California Driverís License.
  • Three years of office experience providing customer service, customer assessment, and program referrals. 
  • Proficiency in the use of database and spreadsheet software programs, word processing, internet research and email, and appropriate software programs utilized for creating program brochures and flyers.        
  • Must have sensitivity to, and understanding of, the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students

General Description:

The goal of the Merced College CITD is to enhance the competitive strength of California businesses in the international marketplace and support international trade development within Region 5 and the local community.  The primary target market for CITD program services is established small-to-medium sized businesses having a strong, stable, domestic market and adequate resources to undertake the development and establishment of international markets.  These businesses typically employ 20 or fewer employees.   The program is funded by the Economic and Workforce Development Program of the California Community Colleges Chancellorís Office.  Under the general supervision of the CITD Director, the International Trade Assistant is responsible for daily program activities, promotion of CITD program services, and program data collection and reporting.

Essential Functions:

  • Responsible for maintaining the international trade program database, and trade resource library
  • Type financial purchase orders and program requisitions
  • Maintain program information, statistics, client and financial information
  • Input required program data and financial information into the State data collection system
  • Respond to client and agency inquiries, making appropriate referrals using knowledge and judgment based on program and service regulations and guidelines
  • Research information via the internet and other traditional methods providing research for clients and for program information necessary to grant and funding opportunity development
  • Develop a working knowledge of special terminology related to program services
  • Maintain budget records and files
  • Input statistics and data related to client services
  • Assist with coordinating the flow of program communications, providing and updating the CITD Director with information necessary to program outcomes, program finances, client services, program inquiries, and information necessary to the general success of the program
  • Operate a variety of office machines
  • Type a variety of materials
  • May take minutes
  • Organize office work and assign and review the work of interns
  • Provide program information, technical assistance and initial program counseling
  • Explain and disseminate trade related materials and market research
  • Schedules meetings, workshops, and conferences
  • Composes correspondence with only general direction and review  
  • Travel overnight(s) to sponsor and attend workshops, training, trade shows, and program meetings as required. 

Knowledge of:

  • Internet research, marketing, and surfing methodology

  • Principles of business letter and report writing including the use of proper grammar, spelling, and punctuation 

Ability to:

  • Travel overnight for program workshops, training, trade shows, and program meetings.
  • Collect, organize, input, and maintain pertinent data, information, statistics, and financial information as required;
  • Work independently with general supervision
  • Meet program deadlines
  • Work cooperatively, effectively, and professionally with the public, colleagues, community college employees, and other related programs and individuals
  • Train and oversee interns
  • Incorporate attention to detail when taking messages, receiving instructions, performing all job functions, working with clients, and providing program services
  • Read, interpret, learn and apply procedures and requirements as related to the program and job duties
  • Write and/or print legibly

Interview Information: Those applicants deemed most qualified for the position will be invited to appear for oral interviews before a screening committee.  Finalist interviews with district administrators may follow.  A limited number of candidates will be invited to interviews.  Expenses for travel and accommodations will be the responsibility of the candidates.

Employee Benefits: The District pays (with small contribution from employee) health, prescription, vision and dental insurance premiums for the employee and dependents. Life and income protection insurance premiums are provided for the employee only, as well as paid vacation, sick leave and holidays.
