Minimum Qualifications


  • Graduation from high school or the equivalent
  • One year of clerical experience
  • Type at 40 net words per minute
  • Be sensitive to and understand the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability and ethnic backgrounds of community college students

General Description:

Under general supervision, to perform a variety of clerical duties involving several specific routines and broadly defined policies and procedures; and to do related work as required.

 Essential Functions:

  • Performs a variety of clerical and typing work
  • Types a variety of materials from marginal notes, rough draft, or verbal instructions
  • Compiles information from various sources and types on a variety of forms
  • Reviews documents for accuracy, completeness, and  conformance to established procedures
  • Compiles and tabulates statistical data
  • May serve as receptionist for students, faculty, and the general public
  • Answers inquiries and gives out information concerning standards, procedures, and programs
  • Maintains files
  • Classifies and posts information and keeps a variety of records
  • Operates standard office machines
  • May receive and issue receipts for monies
  • May open and distribute mail

Knowledge of:

  • Modern office practices and procedures

Ability to:

  • Maintain clerical records
  • Learn and interpret rules, regulations, and instructions
  • Spell correctly and use good English
  • Compare names and numbers rapidly and accurately
  • Perform clerical work with speed and accuracy
  • Meet the public effectively
  • Operate a variety of office machines
  • Type at 40 words per minute
  • Work cooperatively with others
