Course Description: This course is designed for those students who have not had any algebra or those who need a review of their beginning algebra skills. It is an intense course in real numbers covering the basic operations of addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, squaring, and square rooting algebraic expressions. It also includes solving and graphing first and second degree equations, inequalities and systems of linear equations, factoring and simplifying fractions. Mathematical terminology and written problems will be emphasized throughout the course.

Grading Policy: Your letter grade will be based on your percentage of possible points.
A 90.0 - 100% C 70.0 - 79.9%
B 80.0 - 89.9% D 60.0 - 69.9%

Method of Student Evaluation:
9 Examinations (Opportunities) worth 100 points each.
(Except for Exam 1R, each exam REQUIRES an 8.5" x 11" note sheet. You must turn this in with your exam)
Quizzes/Homeworks/Other Assignments worth from 10 to 100 points each.
Final Examination (cumulative) worth 200 points.

Make-up Policy: TURN YOUR WORK IN ON TIME

Examinations—There will be no opportunities to retake an exam. The lowest Exam (among Exams 1 through 9) will be dropped.  Your final exam grade will be substituted for your second lowest exam if it benefits you.  You may not retake Exam 10 or the final.
 Quizzes—No make up, the lowest will be used as extra credit.
 Homework/Other Assignments—No Make-up. TURN YOUR WORK IN ON TIME!!!

Registration:
 1.  You must register for this class at the office.
 2.  The last day to register for this class is January 31, 2002.
 3.  The last day to drop this class is May 3, 2002.
 4.  After May 3, 2002, if you are enrolled, you will receive an A, B, C, D or F.  An incomplete is
given for the most serious and compelling reasons, and must be negotiated before 5/22/02.
 

IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILTY TO DROP THE CLASS IN ORDER TO AVOID A GRADE. However, you may be dropped on your fifth absence or on your seventh tardy. (i.e. you are allowed four absences or six tardies).
