Required Text: Prealgebra, Lial and Hestwood.

Supplemental Text (Optional): Algebra the Easy Way, Barron's

Course Description: The course begins with a brief review of the number system and operations on numbers including whole numbers, decimals, and fractions.  The course covers signed numbers, percents, ratios, proportions, measurements, exponents, square roots, simple geometry, the number system, the metric system, and an introduction to algebra.

Prerequisite: Grade of "C" or better in Math 91 or equivalent.

Grading Policy: Your letter grade will be based on your percentage of possible points.
A 90.0 - 100% C 70.0 - 79.99%
B 80.0 - 89.99% D 60.0 - 69.99%

Method of Student Evaluation:
5 Examinations (Opportunities) worth 100 points each.
Quizzes/Homeworks/Other Assignments worth from 10 to 100 points each.
Final Examination (cumulative) worth 200 points.

Make-up Policy: TURN YOUR WORK IN ON TIME
Examinations-There will be only one opportunity during the semester when a test may be made up.
On Tuesday 11/28 (3:30 - 5:30 pm), or Wednesday 11/28 (2:30 - 4:30 pm) you may make-up Ex 1-4.
Exams will be cumulative in nature, by that I mean the exam will cover the materials from exams 1-4. Exams will be in Room 9. There will be no penalty for taking a make-up.
The lowest exam will be dropped (Exam 5 may not be dropped)
Quizzes-No make up, the lowest will be used as extra credit.
Homework/Other Assignments-No Make-up. TURN YOUR WORK IN ON TIME!!!

Registration:
1. You must register for this class at the office.
2. The last day to register for this class is August 26, 2000.
3. The last day to drop this class is November 17, 2000.
4. After November 17, 2000, if you are enrolled, you will receive an A, B, C, D or F. An incomplete is given for the most serious and compelling reasons, and must be negotiated before 12/8/00.

IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILTY TO DROP THE CLASS IN ORDER TO AVOID A GRADE. However, you may be dropped on your fifth absence or on your seventh tardy. (i.e. you are allowed four absences or six tardies).
