Math C Lab 2 -- Mathpert          (Mr. Power)                             NAME _________________________

Mathpert is a math tutorial program.  It is designed to get you to think about the strategy of solving math problems.  Instead of solving the problem yourself, you

      a.  Highlight the part of the problem that needs to be worked on,

      b.  Choose the appropriate task.  You might have to interpret statements like a(b+c)=ab+ac.

      c.  Let the computer actually do the calculation.

      d.  Decide when the problem is actually finished.

1.  Sign in at the Math Lab (Room S-201)

2.  Select a computer.  Mathpert is installed on all of them.

3.  Call up the program by selecting the Mathpert icon

4.  Select "Run a Demo"

-- Select the demo for "Working Problems."

-- The demo will show you how to use the Mathpert program.

-- Click on "Next" or "Previous" if you want to move faster or review.

5.  Return to Mathpert and select "Algebra" from the menu bar at the top of the screen.

6.  Work problems #1 through #5 from each of the following sections.  If you get stuck, try the "ShowStep" option.  Do try to find a strategy that takes more than one step.  The ultimate cop-out is "AutoFinish."
