Frequently Asked Questions

Without fail, these questions are asked every semester:

Q: “May I turn in this late homework or journal assignment?”
A: No, homework and journals are accepted only on the date due.

Q: “May I turn in this late essay?”
A: Yes, late essays are accepted, but they will be marked LATE and the number of days late will be noted. The paper grade will be lowered because of its lateness, and I reserve the right to lower the grade as I see fit depending on how late the paper and why it was late.

Q: “May I make up a quiz?”
A: Yes, but only before the class takes the quiz.  If you know of or anticipate an absence, you need to schedule a time to take the quiz.  Once the class has taken the quiz, it is too late.

Q: “I was sick, so I couldn’t come to class.  May I be excused?”
A: No, I do not differentiate between excused and unexcused absences.  I allow one week’s worth of absences before I penalize.  That means you may be sick for a week, without child care for a week, on jury duty for a week, out of town for a week, etc.  One week out of a semester is more than enough time to take care of personal matters.  If not, you will be missing out on vital information and work; therefore, your performance and grade in the class will suffer.

Q: “May I reschedule my rough draft conference?"
A: Of course, just come by my office door, erase your name, and fit it into another time slot.  Don’t forget that email conferences are also always an option.
