Information for Late Enrollees

  1. In order to be officially enrolled in the class, you need to bring me proof of your registration which, in most cases, consists of a processed pink slip. Only then will I add you to my class list.

  2. If you should read this on a computer not housed in the language lab:  go to the Language Lab located in V-11.  The hours are posted on the door.

  3. Tell the instructor on duty that you would like to sign up for the lab.   She/ he will guide you as to what forms need to be filled out.  You will need to present your student ID to complete the process.  Depending on the class, there might or might not be a lab component for your course.  If your class does not have a lab component, it is still helpful to be able to use the lab in case you need to type an assignment, listen to a tape, or access the Internet.

  4. Ask the instructor on duty to access the Internet for you.

  5. Type in www.mccd.edu/humanities/ckreide.  This is the address of my web page.  On the front page you will find a link to Announcements.  Click on it.  Then read the information under Information for Students Enrolling Late.

  6. Print out the Personal Data Sheet by clicking on it, then giving the print command; fill it out completely, and turn it in to your instructor the next class period.  This information is confidential and helps me to assess a student.

  7. Click on Syllabi and print out the syllabus for the class you are taking.  Read it carefully, then sign it if you are in agreement with its rules.  Your signature represents a binding gesture with regard to the course.  If you feel doubtful about your potential compliance with some rules, you might reconsider your class choice.  If not, make sure you present your instructor with the signed syllabus the next class period.

  8. Go to my office during the office hours listed in the syllabus.  My office is located in Library 8D, accessible directly from the outside without climbing any stairs.  Ask for homework vouchers.  A homework voucher allows you to submit late homework within one week of its due day.  The voucher needs to be stapled to the late assignment, and only one assignment per voucher is permitted. Economize wisely!  Safeguard them!  There are no replacements. Should you have some vouchers left over at the end of the semester, they can be traded in for a point boost. Every semester there is at least one student who receives a higher letter grade thanks to those grubby, recycled vouchers.

  9. Prepare yourself (everybody except Spanish 10 and 11) for the first lab assignment.  Obtain a 90 minute, brand name audio cassette (generic ones damage our equipment).  Go to the Language Lab (V-11), and ask the lab assistant to copy the first chapter for your course. You will need to indicate to him/her the language, book title, and chapter you require.  If your cassette is used, tell the lab assistant, since s/he will have to erase it before copying on it.  The copying process takes about 3-4 minutes if there is no line.  It is recommended that you do this EARLY since every once in a while there is a problem with the high speed copier, and nothing is copied for whatever reason.  In the past, students have become very frustrated when they unwittingly took home a faulty cassette and then waited till the very last moment to do an assignment.  It is your obligation to assure well ahead of time that you have a good cassette before doing your assignment.

  10. Lab assignments will be announced in class the day after the test for a given chapter was taken.  If you should miss that class, please access Announcements or contact somebody in class.

  11. For any other uncertainty or question, please contact me (see contact information on syllabus).
