E-mail will be used to communicate outside of class hours.  Sometimes assignments will be delivered via attachments.  All students are required to have an e-mail account; it is recommended that you use your Merced College e-mail account.

Class Assignments:

Class assignments will indicate your ability to format a variety of documents and demonstrate your understanding and progress in this course.  These assignments will be completed using Microsoft Office 2007.  Points will be deducted for any formatting, spelling, or typographical errors.  Assignments will be due at the end of class, unless otherwise noted.

Homework:

Homework is assigned to reinforce lessons learned in class.  Homework will be assigned weekly, and will be due the following week.  The schedule has assignments listed.  Assignments will need to have a cover sheet attached; with the students name, assignment details, and class time listed.  As with class assignments, points will be deducted for any formatting, spelling, or typographical errors.  Late homework will be deducted 10% per week that it is late, and will not be accepted after 2 weeks.

Portfolio:

Students will compile a personal portfolio of their work.  Keep all of your graded documents to include in your portfolio.  Correct each document as soon as it is returned to you and print a copy.  You will then be accumulating the necessary items you will need for your portfolio.  The CILC Report is part of this portfolio.  The completed portfolio is due near the end of the course and may not be submitted late!  (Early is o.k!!)
CILC Report:
The Computer Information and Literacy Competency Report is a research report that covers several competency requirements for the course.  Please see attachment.  An outline will be provided, and the finished report will be included in the portfolio.

Tests (i.e. “Opportunities”) and quizzes:

Tests (i.e. “Opportunities”) will be administered at the end of each unit of work to measure your learning and achievement of all concepts and procedures.  Please see the schedule for test dates.  Missed tests must be made-up before the following class (within the week).  However, you may arrange to take a test early.

Quizzes will also be given, and cannot be made-up.  Your lowest Quiz score will be dropped.

Student Responsibilities:

Please be sensitive to the learning environment:  It is assumed that every student is attending class to learn; therefore, anything which distracts any student from learning is not appropriate classroom behavior.  (Examples:  Cell phones, playing Solitaire, typing during lecture, conversing during lecture, Internet for personal use, etc.).

In attempting to keep with a business-like, professional atmosphere, any behavior which would be considered inappropriate in a business setting will be addressed in class (ergonomics, feet on chairs, pencil in mouth, etc.).

Academic Honesty:

Students are encouraged to work together, but must turn in original work.  Work, tests, or quizzes copied from others will receive a zero.  Plagiarism is a serious form of academic dishonesty.  Purposefully presenting others ideas, words, or creative product as their own, or failing to credit these sources is plagiarism, and will result in a zero grade.

Web Resources:

Some of the assignments and projects from the book require data files.  These data files are on the lab computers, or can be downloaded from the books website.  The web site is at: http://oc.course.com/np/Office2007/firstcourseXP.cfm
