Welcome to my faculty web page. I am one of the RN instructors for the first semester at Merced College. As you browse through these pages I hope you will find the content helpful to you. I welcome your comments for improvement or even general suggestions. For my students:I look forward to an exciting semester as you begin your journey to becoming an RN. This is a noble profession rich in history and dedicated to service. There are many opportunities for RN's to serve in health care and industries supporting health care. I look forward to facilitating your learning experience. My Teaching Philosophy:Learning is a life-long journey and cannot be confined to the classroom. Formal education’s main objective is to equip students with the tools to take that journey. Courses should be structured to create and stimulate a thirst in students that can only be quenched through personal research and investigation. Students have the right to expect quality educators who present lessons that are well prepared, demonstrate knowledge of the subject, and tailor their lectures, presentations, and class activities to meet the various learning styles of the audience. Each student deserves respect and to be challenged in such a way that growth and creativity is encouraged. As an educator I am committed to the following: · Providing lessons that are well researched and thought provoking. · Delivering content and evaluation in ways to accommodate the various learning styles that includes, but is not limited to, the use of online content, multimedia, audio, video, written content, oral presentations, and practical applications in practice. · Promoting an atmosphere of discovery. · Allowing students to express themselves and their ideas in a safe environment. · Demonstrating respect and caring in all my interactions. I carry these principles for education into my entire life. I believe the human resource is the most important resource. To this end, my life objective is to demonstrate respect and caring to all persons regardless of their feelings or actions toward others or myself. While I may personally disagree with or fail to understand another’s actions or opinions I make it my aim to, in the words of Stephen Covey, “seek first to understand, then to be understood.” |
