BUS-18A, ADDITIONAL RECOMMENDED READINGS
Note: This page will be updated as the semester progresses (you're welcome to suggest additions). The below articles aren't required reading, but I think you may find them helpful and/or interesting. PGF
For all you criminal law buffs in my BUS 18 classes:
Here's a 10/02/08 article from the Louisiana Shreveport Times that will bring you up to speed on racketeering and bribery (be sure to take note the Judge's name in the first article), then read the follow-up article (take special note of the third paragraph). And should you think this is an isolated incident, here's a little fraud-money laundering-bribery-conspiracy-perjury story out of San Diego, CA, dated 10/03/08. Or, if you'd prefer, from San Juan, Puerto Rico, a 10/02/08 story on yet another bribery case. I'm quitting my humorous "Who wants an A...?" intro into the topic of white-collar crimes; these stories are MUCH better!
Read about the "smoking gun" of our financial debacle in NY Times' Stephen Labaton's 10/02/08 article, Agency’s ’04 Rule Let Banks Pile Up New Debt.

Old articles (but still worth reading):
If you want to read an article that talks about numerous business law issues we've discussed (or will discuss) in this class, read Andrew McIntosh's front-page article, Nail guns claiming lives, causing harm, in the 4/13/08 edition of the Modesto Bee, and its companion pieces from the Sacramento Bee, Inside a Nail Gun and Nailgun-related injuries. (posted 4/14/08)
Discrimination is alive, well, and being supported by the U.S. Supreme Court. Read this New York Times editorial, Restoring Civil Rights for one author's perspective. (posted 1/30/08)
The legacy of the EV-1 and the fight between California and the EPA over auto emissions is continuing. Read Matthew L. Wald's New York Times article, E.P.A. Chief Defends His Decision on California and decide for yourself: Is the EPA still protecting the car industry? (posted 1/25/08)
Interested in counterfeit or contaminated products? Read U.S. News and World Report's article, Are Your Drugs Safe? by Nancy Shute. (posted 10/09/07; magazine issue date 10/15/07)
Other Miscellaneous Recommended Readings (when/if you have time):
Go to the 3/27/06 issue of U.S. News and World Report and read Can America Keep Up? , Richard Newman's article that discusses why so many smart folks fear that the U.S. is falling behind in the race for global economic leadership. (posted 4/06/06)
