The book review will be graded using the following rubric (each category is graded on a scale of 1 to 5):

The review gives correct information about the author, publishing date, and the book in the introduction.

The review summarizes the purpose and main idea of the book in the introduction.

The review shows evidence of analytical thinking in the summary section (Body).

The review shows analysis and evaluation of the book that addresses the reader’s opinions and perceptions.

The review shows an evaluation and analysis of the job that the author has done in presenting his arguments and achieving his purpose in writing this book.

The review provides a conclusion that reflects a balanced summary of the strengths and weaknesses of the book.

The review provides a concise summary of the arguments and opinions of the reviewer that were expressed in the analysis and evaluation portion of the review.

The review provides clear transitions between paragraphs that are helpful in guiding the reader through the review and it follows the structure outline given for writing the review.

  1. Illegible, sentences doesn’t make sense, messy organization
  2. Almost illegible, somewhat sloppy organization, no elaboration
  3. Legible writing, somewhat sloppy organization, very little elaboration
  4. Legible writing, functional organization, some elaboration and very little discussion or investigation of idea
  5. Well organized presentation, clear and concise explanations and ideas, extensive elaboration on investigation of ideas

Spelling/Grammar

  1. Many spelling and grammatical errors (more than 10)
  2. A noticeable number of errors (more than 6)
  3. A few errors (more than three)
  4. Only one or two errors
  5. Spelling and grammar perfect
