Chris Pedretti
Head Coach


     Chris Pedretti returns to the dugout this year. After thirty years as head coach of the Blue Devils, Coach Pedretti took the 2012-13 year off taking a sabbatical. Returning in 2014, he is in his thirty-first year at the helm of the Blue Devils. He was the 2009 Northern California Coach of the Year. This year Chris joined a very selective group of former and current CCC baseball coaches by winning his 700th game. Chris is the only current and former Blue Devil Coach with 700 wins in a single sport. His win total now stands at 734. As head coach of the Blue Devils he has won four conference championships including the 2009, and 2011 CVC, made the California Regional playoffs eight times, and has had twenty-two players including former Los Angeles Angels relief pitcher Brian Fuentes, and Detroit Tigers and now Washington Nationals pitcher Doug Fister. After playing his high school ball at Turlock, he was a member of the ‘76 and ‘77 State Champion teams at MC. In his sophomore year, Chris was named the MVP of the State Division II JC’s. He was also selected to the coaches All-America squad. After playing and graduating from San Jose State, where he was All-League for the Spartans in 1979, he coached a year at SJSU. Chris served as an assistant for the Blue Devils in ‘81 and also spent six months in Italy as a player-coach. He received his teaching credential from Cal State Stanislaus in ‘82 and also served as the coach of Turlock High’s sophomore baseball team. Chris has a Master of Arts Degree in counseling from the University of San Francisco. He and his wife Michelle have three grown children and one at home here in Merced. His oldest son Joel has joined Chris on the coaching staff in 2012.

Nate Devine
Head Coach

Nate Devine steps down as head coach of the Blue Devils with the return of long time Head Coach Chris Pedretti returns from his one year sabatical. He was the sixth head coach of the Blue Devil baseball team. In his sixth year, Nate has over four years experience as the pitching coach for the Blue Devils. He also has four years coaching experience at ULV while working on his MBA. He coached outfielders, hitters and pitchers. The ULV pitching staff lead the conference his last two years, and won two conference titles.

Nate is a native of Sonora, CA and graduate of Sonora High School before coming to Merced College. Graduating from Merced in 1998 Nate continued his playing career and academics at the University of LaVerne. In his fourth year he was selected Team Most Inspirational player. Nate received a B.S. degree in Business Administration from ULV. While coaching baseball, he is a full-time Life-Fitness instructor at MC. Nate currently lives in the Merced area.

David Cardoza
Assistant Coach
 
David is a local who grew up in Los Banos, CA. He attended Merced College and transferred to Kansas Newman College in Wichita, KS. He is a former 2nd Team All-Conference selection at Merced College, and 2nd Team All-District 10 (KS) selection. David’s coaching experience prior to back to Merced, includes Los Banos High School, Pratt Community College (Pratt, KS), and Kansas Newman College. In his twenty-fourth year here at Merced College Dave has become a fixture of Blue Devil baseball. He works with the outfielders and batters. When not coaching, Dave takes care of the baseball field, and baseball equipment. He also is an adjunct professor in the Kinesiology Department. Dave and his wife Shannon reside in Los Banos with their two children.
Joel Pedretti
Assistant Coach

Joel came back to Merced College three years ago as an assistant coach and 1B coach. Last year Joel stepped up and became the 3B coach. Prior to coming to Merced College, Joel spent the previous two seasons as the Volunteer Assistant at Austin Peay State University in Clarksville, Tennessee, where he helped lead the Governors to a conference championship and conference tournament championship. The team received a birth in the Atlanta, GA Regional where they upset host Georgia Tech. Joel’s playing career first brought him to Merced College where he played in the infield. After playing for Merced College in 2003-2004 he transferred to the University of Oklahoma where he was on two regional teams and a Super Regional team that was 5 outs from reaching the College World Series. Upon finishing playing, he was an Assistant coach at Merced High School for two seasons before moving to Tennessee. Joel lives in Merced.

Jon Boyett
Assistant Coach

     Jon returns for the second time to the Blue Devil dugout. Jon works with the catchers and also team hitting. The Modesto native brings with him over ten years of coaching experience at both the intercollegiate and high school levels.    
     His first coaching experience was from 2004 to 2007 when he was an assistant coach with Pitman High School. After Pitman, Jon moved up to the intercollegiate level and coached at Merced College through the 2009 CVC championship season. He worked with the outfielders and hitters. From 2010 to 2012 he worked with Valley Sports Academy. In 2012 he moved back to a high school coaching position and was Golden Valley’s JV head coach. In 2013 he was an assistant coach with the varsity team. He ran the offense, and was the strength and conditioning coach. In 2012 he was the Head Varsity Summer baseball coach. Since 2009 Jon has been an Associate Scout for the Texas Rangers.
     Jon is a graduate of Grace Davis High School in Modesto. He furthered his baseball playing career at Modesto JC where he was a 2-time All-CVC selection, and 2-time Team MVP. He was a 19th round draft selection of the Montreal Expos. From 1999-2000 he played baseball at CSU Stanislaus. He was team captain in 2000, led the team in stolen bases, batted .300 and hit 10 homeruns.
