Annual south-west trip to Chaco Canyon and Mesa Verde:
Spring 2009 trip to be announced.
WHAT TO BRING:
It is likely that for the majority of the trip the weather will be hot and dry. However, the weather in the desert is known to be variable and can change quickly. Temperatures can range from 30 to 110+ degrees F, and will definitely be lower during the night. Thunderstorms are not uncommon. Please plan appropriately.
Except for two or three fast-food stops, food and cooking supplies will be provided by the club. You should plan on bringing some extra drinks and snacks to take on hikes with you. Cooking and cleaning duties will be shared by all!
Bring some spending money for a few fast-food stops, souvenirs, and your time in the city of Flagstaff.
You will also need: tent and tarp, sleeping bag, bed mat, pillow, flashlight, comfortable and broken-in hiking and walking shoes, sandals (flip-flops for showers), socks, underwear and long-johns, shorts, pants, t-shirts, sweatshirt, jacket/windbreaker, rain gear, toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant, shampoo, soap, washcloth, towel, backpack, large water bottle or hydration pack (32 oz. or larger), sunscreen, hat (preferably with a wide brim and neck cord), chap stick or lip balm, laundry detergent, some quarters for the laundry machines and a camera.
Other items that can be useful: swimsuit, binoculars, personal music player, batteries, calamine lotion, bug spray, nose drops, Tylenol/Advil/Aspirin, Benadryl/antihistamine, Aloe Vera gel or lotion, baby wipes, kleenex, duct tape, and solar showers.
Remember that there is limited space in the vans. Please try to pack as light as possible! Some items such as bug spray, laundry detergent and Benadryl do not need to be brought by each and every person. With a little coordination ahead of time, we should be able to share some items, keep our load light, and still have everything we'll need.
