Registered Nursing Program
All individuals who meet minimum enrollment requirements are eligible to
apply to the nursing programs. Criteria and complete information on the
selection process as well as the philosophy and objectives of each
program are described in the Nursing Application Handbook which is
available in the Merced College Bookstore and online. The handbook is
extensive and may contain additional information not featured here.
The Registered Nursing Program
at Merced College prepares students to take the National Council
Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN), leading to
licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) and is designed to prepare
competent nurses for service in the community.
The Registered Nursing Program requires two
academic years beyond the completion of the prerequisite courses and
non-Nursing breadth requirements.
Graduates will earn the Associate of
Science Degree upon completion of designated courses and competency
requirements.
Mission Statement
The mission of the Merced College Registered Nursing Program is to
prepare our students for careers as professional Registered Nurses by
providing a continually-improving educational program which is
accredited by the California Board of Registered Nursing and by
instilling in our students a commitment to continued professional growth
and lifelong learning.

Update on RN Application Process for March 2013
Applications will not be accepted before or after these
dates & times--for any reason. It is the student’s responsibility to
meet with a counselor at least one month before the application period
if they have classes not listed on the grid. See page 28 of the RN
application handbook.

Announcement of Proposed Curriculum Change
Pending approval by the Chancellor’s Office and the
Board of Registered Nursing, the following changes will be made to the
Registered Nursing Curriculum effective
Fall 2014:
Elimination of CHEM 2A as a
program prerequisite
(potentially in 2014/2015)
Elimination of CLDV-9/PSYC-9 as a required course
as a prerequisite course for REGN 25 & 35
The following changes have been approved by the
Chancellor's Office and the Board of Registered Nursing effective Fall
2013:
Elimination of REGN-17, 26, 27, 36, 37, 38, 46, 47,
and 48 courses
Increase units for REGN-16 from 2 units to 3 units
(new course number REGN-18)
Increase units for REGN-25 and 35 from 9 units to 10
units (new course numbers REGN-24 & 34)
