Renee Silva has been selected as Merced College’s Outstanding Student of the Month for November. Originally from San Leandro, Silva moved to Salida to attend Modesto Junior College where she earned her Associate of Science degree in Business Operations. She is currently completing her Associate of Science degree in Diagnostic Radiologic Technology at Merced College.
Silva has 10 years of experience working with American Express Financial Advisors and obtained her Notary Public, Series 7 brokerage, and life insurance licenses. More recently she has worked at Memorial Medical Center in Modesto and found herself drawn to the Radiography Program. Silva states that “my clinical experiences have been the most valuable learning tools toward my success."
On the academic side, Silva maintains a 3.76 GPA and has gone the extra mile and completed an advanced imaging modality class in computerized tomography. Her proudest moment was writing an article titled "How to Prepare for Clinical Rotation" which was published in the April issue of RT Image Magazine. She is currently awaiting the results from the California Society of Radiologic Technologists Design Contest where she redesigned the new member cover letter and membership ID card. Silva is also writing an article titled "As the End of the Internship Approaches" for the CSRT Technigram, the state professional newsletter.
This dynamic woman not only shines
academically, she is also known as the "fund raising queen of all time"
according to Judy Rose, director of the diagnostic Radiologic Technology
Program. Silva organized and managed a very successful See's Candy Sale for
the Radiologic Technology Club, and was instrumental in obtaining great
deals and raising money for the club. Silva is also the proud mother of a
two year old daughter and enjoys gardening and being outdoors.
