Hosts Japanese Day of Remembrance Banquet

The Livingston-Merced
Chapter of the Japanese American Citizens League (JACL) and the Social
Science Division of Merced College will be holding its annual Day of Remembrance
Banquet Sat., Feb. 17 at the Merced College Cafeteria. Social Hour begins
at 5 p.m.; dinner at 6 p.m., with the program following at 7 p.m. Shizue
Seigel, author of the book, “In Good Conscience: Supporting Japanese
Americans during the Internment,” will be the guest speaker at the
banquet.
Tickets are $15 and can be purchased by contacting one of the following
individuals: Steve Teranishi at 383-6577, Bob Taniguchi at 383-5161, Grace
Kimoto at 394-2456, or Chris Masuda at 357-1013.
Also from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. on the same day, the Japanese American film
“Time of Fear” will be shown and excerpts from a play will
be presented in Library, Room #1 at the Merced College. This program is
open to the public and free of charge.
This event is sponsored by the Japanese Americans of Merced County Committee,
Cortez Japanese American Citizens League; Livingston-Merced Japanese American
Citizens League, and the Merced College Social Science Department.
