August 24 , 2005 Two recent private gifts to Merced College will provide funds for student scholarships and the purchase of computers for student use. The College was given gifts totaling $90,000 from the estate of the late Elmo Giampaoli, a lifelong resident of Le Grand who passed away two years ago. The gifts were recently made to the Merced College Board of Trustees, who unanimously accepted the donations on behalf of the students who will benefit from the Giampaoli estate. “I want to thank the Giampaoli family for their generous gift,” said Dr. Les McCabe, chairman of the Board of Trustees. “I am pleased that these donations will contribute to a positive learning environment for our students.” The gifts were presented to the College by Elmo Giampaoli’s brothers Raymond and Dario Giampaoli and their wives Maria and Josephine Giampaoli respectively. “These are very generous gifts, and I appreciate the fact that the Giampaoli family is investing in student success at our community college,” said Robin Shepard, executive director of the Merced College Foundation. “The gifts are a fitting tribute to a man who made his living as a farmer and who dearly loved his community.” For more information about supporting Merced College, call the Merced College Foundation at 381-6470.
