Merced College Hosts Grand Opening for Newly Completed Bill and Dorothy Bizzini Interdisciplinary Academic Center

April 13, 2005

May 22, 2003 was an exciting day for Merced College – a day when the ground was ceremoniously broken and construction officially began on the Bill and Dorothy Bizzini Interdisciplinary Academic Center, a two-year, $10.2 million project. Completed in time for the 2005 Spring semester, students are now enjoying taking classes in the campus’s newest building.

In celebration, Merced College is hosting a public grand opening and unveiling on Tuesday, May 3 at 1:30 p.m. and the community is invited to partake in refreshments and guided tours of the building.

Named after long-time supporters of Merced College Bill and Dorothy Bizzini, the Center is actually three separate buildings, one single-story building in the center that houses the campus computer and writing labs, and two two-story buildings that house the Humanities and Social Sciences divisions. The Center provides the campus with almost 23,000 square feet of new instructional space. The Bizzinis have committed $1 million in their estate trust to Merced College and the gift is the largest cash contribution the College has received from a private donor.   Residents of Atwater, the Bizzinis are owners of three veterinary hospitals and numerous residential properties and developments. Bill, a veterinarian, served on the MCCD Board of Trustees for 12 years, guiding the District through the early stages of its facilities master planning process. Dorothy is a past District Governor of Rotary International and is a member of the County Bank Board of Directors.

The weather should be great so come out and enjoy the festivities as Merced College celebrates the grand opening of the Bill and Dorothy Bizzini Interdisciplinary Academic Center on May 3, at 1:30 p.m. Parking is available in the Tri-College Center lot, located north of Yosemite Avenue off “G” Street and is free of charge.
