Learn About Financial Aid With Merced College Workshop

October 28, 2004

Merced College is hosting several free financial aid workshops for students and parents during the months of November and December. All workshops will be on the Merced campus in the staff dining room located in the Student Union. Staff from the College’s Financial Aid Office will provide help in completing the federal financial aid packet for the 2004-2005 academic year.

“Students and parents should bring their 2003 income information to the workshop,” said Financial Aid counselor Judy Leufgen, noting that participants can estimate their income if they don’t have exact figures. Students and parents may bring in W-2 forms or any other relevant 2003 income information.

The personalized assistance College staff will be providing is invaluable to students wishing to attend college next semester. According to the Central Valley Higher Education Consortium, only 28 percent of students in the local region who qualify for Cal Grants submit an application. This means many local students are missing an opportunity to receive money to help pay for college.

The workshop is part of a series of “Cash for College” workshops designed to help students and parents apply for federal financial aid, including Cal Grant awards.

The workshops will be held on the following dates:

  • Wednesday, November 10 at 11 a.m.
  • Thursday, November 18 at 1 p.m.
  • Wednesday, December 1 at 11 a.m.
  • Thursday, December 9 at 1 p.m.
  • Wednesday, December 15 at 11 a.m.
