October 21, 2004 Leigh-Ann Thornhill has been selected as Merced College Outstanding Student of the Month for October. With a cumulative GPA of 3.5, she has completed her Associate of Arts Degree in Drama and graduated with honors. She is currently pursuing units to transfer to a four-year university and work toward her Bachelor's and Master's Degrees and would like to someday teach at the high school or community college level. Thornhill is involved with many extra curricular activities and has spent numerous hours working with voter registration, March of Dimes Walk, student government, and more. For Thornhill, service is one of the most important elements in her life. "She's intelligent, organized, diligent and dependable" notes Patricia Schade, Thornhill's English instructor who nominated her for this award. Thornhill participates in Phi Theta Kappa, the campus honor society. Schade states "She is an exemplary student and a model for students in her dedication and organization." Finally Ms. Thornhill concludes that she has built a sense of community at Merced College. She has learned through dedicating time to studies, students and worthy causes that her life has become a meaningful educational journey. The faculty and administration congratulate Leigh-Ann Thornhill and is proud to have such a dedicated and distinguished individual enrolled as a student at Merced College.
