Prerequisites to enter Biotechnology I include Biology (Bio 1 or
Bio 4), Chemistry (Chem 2A/2B or 1A/1B), and Genetics (Genetics
may be taken concurrently). Entrance into subsequent courses requires
successful completion of the prior course.

Students can complete the program in as few as four semesters.

Students should see a counselor to determine other courses to take
while enrolled in the Biotechnology program.

You could find employment and career fields such as: Biotechnology,
DNA Forensics, Chemical Biotechnology, Agriculture Biotechnology,
and Bioinformatics, or you could transfer to a four-year institution.

with a Biotechnology background?

Starting salaries vary by employer and regionally, however, it is not uncommon for entry-level technicians to start at hourly wages of $17/hour or monthly salaries of $35,000.

Biotechnology is the fastest-growing industry in California, which
is home to 50% of the nation's biotechnology companies. The number
of Californians employed in biotechnology is expected to grow to
more than 100,000 over the next several years. Many of the jobs
are within 120 miles of Merced. With the opening of UC Merced, more
positions should be available locally.
