Welcome to the Merced College Arts Division. We are always glad to see interest in the arts, especially from those of you seriously considering studying for a career in visual art, music, theater, or photography.

For some of you this may be the first step in your professional education in the arts, and it may be a long, hard pull for you over the next few years. But it will also be a rewarding and fulfilling experience. You only have so many years in your life, how better to spend them than to dedicate yourself to making this world a better, more beautiful, and more interesting place? Developing your creative side and applying it to the sights, sounds, and stories that make up world culture is a noble aspiration. As an artist myself, I am always thrilled to see more and more people taking this step.

Our goal as a division is to provide you with a top-notch artistic eduction. Whether your ultimate goal is the A.A. degree and transfer, a certificate enabling employment in the applied arts, or life enrichment, our faculty can get you started. Most of the Arts Division's teachers are also professionals in their subjects. Musicians, painters, photo journalists, sculptors, ceramicists, singers, and dramatists who have worked professionally in their fields will necessarily have a greater understanding of what to study and where the next step will lead you. And since Merced College is a California Community College, our Arts Division will enable you to get a first class foundation at minimal cost.
