General Agriculture

California and the Central Valley lead the nation and the world in agricultural production. The scope and diversity of this broad industry is unparalleled anywhere else in the world.

As a General Agriculture major, students will explore this diverse agriculture industry through a variety of courses. This diverse agricultural study provides students with entry level employment opportunities and skills along with the ability to transfer to a college or university to continue their studies in a wide variety of agricultural fields.

Programs can be arranged several ways.

  1. Certificate of Completion Program - a program in which all course work is directly related to gaining employment.
  2. Associate Degree Program - advanced technical skills are developed along with general education.
  3. Transfer Program - formal education is continued at an advanced level in a four-year college or university.

The Merced College General Agriculture curriculum at Merced College can include instruction in the areas of Agricultural Business, Animal Science, Crop Science, Plant Science, Soil Science, Landscape Horticulture, and Mechanized Agriculture.
