The Merced Community College District Police Department operates as a separate jurisdiction working in conjunction with the Merced County Sheriff's Office.  Established pursuant to Education Code 72330, Merced College Police Department receives legal authority under California Penal Code Section 830.32.

Both Merced and Los Banos Campus Police Department are under the direction of Director of Law Enforcement, Sgt. Frank Swiggart, with the Merced County Sheriff's Department.

The Merced Campus Police Department consist of 3 Full Time Sworn Peace Officers, 2 Non-Sworn Parking Enforcement Officers, 11 extra help security officers, and a front office secretary, while the Los Banos Campus Police Department includes 1 Full Time Sworn Peace Officer, 1 Non-Sworn Parking Enforcement Officer, and 3 extra help security officers.  All of these individuals play an important role in protecting and serving the campus community.
