The University of California (UC) System consists of 10 campuses which grant bachelors, masters, and doctorate degrees. (Note: UC San Francisco offers mostly graduate health professional programs.) The UC System is world renowned for its academic excellence and research emphasis. However, the UC System gives the highest priority for Transfer admissions to community college transfer students. UC campuses accept only full-time day students at the undergraduate level. No part-time enrollment or evening classes are available. All campuses except UC
Berkeley and UC
Merced, operate on the quarter system. Three quarters: fall, winter, and spring, make up the regular academic year. |

UC basically only accepts transfer students as a junior level with a minimum of 60 UC transferable units (UC transferable units differ from CSU transferable units. Consult a Counselor for more information.) completed prior to transfer. See the list of courses transferable to UC (The UC transferable course list can be accessed at Project Assist or view a hard copy at the Career / Transfer Center). Transfer students should complete IGETC (Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum) if applicable. (IGETC may not be advantageous for high unit majors. Students may need to complete the General Education pattern of their chosen campus.) Students transferring to the UC System must complete the following requirements prior to transfer. Among the transferable courses the student must pass with a grade of C or better must be:
- Two courses (3 semester units or 4-5 quarter units each) English composition AND
- One course (3 semester units or 4-5 quarter units) mathematics or mathematical statistics, AND
- Four additional courses (3 semester units or 4-5 quarter units each) chosen from at least two of the following subject areas: the Arts and Humanities, the Social and Behavioral Sciences, and the Physical and Biological Sciences.
Students should also complete lower-division major requirements for their specific major prior to transfer. The minimum grade point average (GPA) used to select transfer students for admission depends on campus and major desired.
*Merced College students please be advised that if you are completing the IGETC, you must request IGETC Certification when requesting your transcripts to be sent to the four-year institutions.

Merced College is fortunate to have guaranteed Transfer Admission Agreements (TAA) with UC Davis (with a minimum 2.9 GPA), UC Santa Cruz (3.0 GPA), UC Riverside (2.8
GPA or higher
depending on the
major), and UC Santa
Barbara (Minimum
2.8 GPA in all UC transferable
course work). These agreements enable qualified students (completion of 30 transferable units) to be guaranteed admission one year prior to transfer. Merced College students are encouraged to take advantage of these agreements, and meet with a counselor as soon as possible to determine eligibility and conduct transfer planning. |

UC institutions are public universities and at present cost approximately $4,000.00 per year for California residents. Financial aid is available for qualified applicants. Contact the Financial Aid Offices at the UC campuses in which you are interested and consult with the Financial Aid Office at Merced College. |

The UC System has a one-month period for filing admission applications. Fall admission applications must be filed during the November preceding transfer (1 year prior to transfer). Campuses vary as to whether they will accept Winter/Spring applications. Consult the UC application forms and/or counselor for other quarter or semester filing periods. UC applications are available at the Transfer Center. |
